Neues Museum (New Museum)

After being badly damaged in the war, the Neues Museum lay for decades exposed to the wind and weather as a ruin, but it was opened to the public again and in splendid form in October 2009. In line with restoration plans by London architect David Chipperfield, the building, which was built between 1843 and 1855, underwent an exquisite and long process of inventory and design faithful to the principles of the Venice Charter.

In this restoration of the building, modern elements are seen only where the building has irretrievably lost part of its original substance.

After eleven years of planning and six years of construction, overcoming obstacles such as petitions against construction and funding, the museum opened as the third of five on Museum Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is a great attraction. public since its reopening.

Winner of several architecture awards, the reconstruction work of the Neues Museum has included it in the significant mark of the city through cultural buildings and places that are part of the collective memory of the capital.
